Going To High School
My Freshman Year

Editor's Note: I lost the capability of using my Blog edittor, "Live Writer" but think I have been able to get it back. If this Blog is published it is now again working and I did fix it. I am still trying to figure out how to insert photos from my orginal MS Word story into the Blog. I will work on that next.

I hope I haven’t confused you too much, but I have lost some of the memories of the early part of High School. I am going to pick some of the things I remember and hope I get them in about the right sequence.
Miss Clark’s Algebra Class
I guess the reason I remember Miss Clark’s algebra class is because algebra did not make a bit of sense to me. What I remember is some of the craziness that was done in her class. I am going to try and tell this without mentioning specific people. One thing I remember we did was pass notes around for all sorts of things. One I remember was the note that said “everyone laugh at 2:30” Well 2:30 came and everyone laughed. Miss Clark would look up from whatever she was doing and act as if she thought she had done something funny and would laugh with the rest of us.
There were also some (2 or 3 students) that would chew up paper in their mouths and when it was just the right consistency they would throw it in the direction of the blackboard that she was writing on…with her back to us.
The paper wad would splatter all over the blackboard and you know I don’t think she ever got mad. But it made all the rest of us slump down in our seats when she turned around and she would ask one of us to come up and clean off the blackboard.
Writing for the School Newspaper
We had a section in the town’s weekly newspaper that was devoted to the school material it was call the “Sentential”. It had articles written by student writers about all sorts of school related things.
I remember there were two of us that use to write (what we considered) humorous short stories. I remember one such ongoing article was the adventures of “Tough and Steady”.
Tough and Steady were names that we created from a newly created Television animated cartoon series the “Adventures of Rough and Ready”. This was the very first Hanna/Barbera animated cartoon ever.
We also wrote a mystery man article and would produce silly advertising commercials for fictitious products like “Crinkles Cereal”, “Ipunia toothpaste” and lots more. These were all in fun and we like to write them.
We would get excused from study hall to go to the home economics room to work on the articles and would usually get to try some of the baked products from the home economics classes. All I will tell you is that the other classmate was also named David!
We also wrote many skits that we preformed at various functions but the best was the Homecoming skit night. The skit that we contributed a lot of input to won the “Red Jug Award” for the best skit our freshman year. It was the first time in the history of the Red Jug that it had been won by the Freshman Class. (Incidentally we also won it the next three years also.)
Those are a few of the main things that I can remember from my freshman year of High School.
